New interim superintendent

Dear AASD Families,

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Vanessa Robisch. Tuesday, I began my role as interim superintendent here at AASD.

I started working at AASD when I was in graduate school. I worked as a volunteer, sub, teacher, department head, behavior specialist, and superintendent. I loved my time at AASD and have been working part-time on statewide Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) Outreach since my retirement four years ago. I always knew how special AASD was and traveling statewide to visit with teachers has given me even a greater appreciation of the fantastic work happening at AASD. There is great work in Deaf education throughout the state, and AASD remains a wonderful example of what can and should be happening regularly.

Its been quite a year and there is a lot to catch up on! I hope many of you can join me and parent chairperson, Tanitra Carter for our (Virtual) Open House School Council meeting on Thursday, November 4th at 7:00 PM. In that meeting I intend to update everyone about AASD, seek the Council's input on some agenda items, and answer questions. A Zoom link for the meeting will be sent in coming weeks. I sincerely hope many of you will plan to attend. It will be conducted in ASL, English, and Spanish.

It was heartwarming to see familiar faces this week. I look forward to meeting all the staff and students who I haven’t met yet and to meeting many of you, our AASD families, as soon as possible. If you have any questions about the changes in leadership, what you may have seen in the news, or about anything in general, I am happy to answer them during the School Council meeting or one-on-one. Email me at and we can set up a time to talk.

Thank you for your continued partnership.
