Description of Duties:
Provides a comprehensive educational of instruction to students who are hearing impaired. Responsibilities include assessing and documenting students' communication skills, functional reading/math skills, independent living skills, and educational/behavioral development; identifying appropriate individualized educational goals; developing and implementing instructional lesson plans; maintaining documentation of student progress; and utilizing appropriate instructional techniques based on individual student needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED and four hours of initial substitute teacher training provided by a local education agency in Georgia, and sign language proficiency at the "Intermediate Level" as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Instrument is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid or expired professional teaching certificate at level 4 or higher (or letter of eligibility for the same)
  • Completion of at least one or more years of post-secondary training beyond a high school diploma ranked in order of number of years completed
  • Sign language proficiency at the "Advanced Level" as measured by the Sign Communication Instrument

Salary/Benefits:
Part-time, hourly position with no benefits. Hourly pay rate is $10.00 - $18.00 commensurate with education level and employment experience.
