Behavioral Specialist

Description of Duties:
The Georgia Department of Education - Atlanta Area School for the Deaf (AASD) is recruiting for a Behavioral Specialist. This position will collaborate with the behavioral support team and school leaders on crisis intervention/behavior management. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide direct support to students
- Manage and oversee the formulation and implementation of program policies and procedures regarding crisis intervention/behavior management
- Identify resources for school staff to support students
- Coordinate and facilitate communication between the students, school staff and parents/families regarding discipline and consequences; Coordinates and monitors behavior referral data
- Provide in-service training to staff related to behavior management and social emotional learning
- Attend and participate in conferences and workshops pertinent to behavior management
- Coordinate and conduct summer home visits to address effective behavior/socio-emotional strategies with families
- Provide satellite training/support to families in partnership with the Family Engagement Specialist
- Build teams that work collaboratively to support our students and school staff
- Communicate effectively with all constituents when dealing in situations with students and school staff
- Complete paperwork and documentation in a timely manner; and assist AASD community in understanding the unique needs of our deaf/hard of hearing students
Note:
Applicants will be expected to exhibit the ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL) during the interview with an expectation of obtaining an ASL rating of 3+ or above within three years from date of hire
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Four years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifcations:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

- A Master’s degree in social work, psychology, deaf education, special education, emotional-behavior disorders, or a closely related field
- Possess or eligible to obtain a clear renewable Georgia teaching certificate in Behavior Disorders or Special Education General Curriculum OR possess a valid certification as a Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
- Experience conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
- Experience implementing BIPs and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Experience implementing Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) and Multi-tiered System of Support MTSS
- Experience with non-violent crisis intervention techniques or other evidenced-based emotional-behavior intervention techniques
- At least three (3) years of experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students
- ASL proficiency at 4 or above as measured by the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI)
Salary/Benefits:
Annual salary range $41,268.09 (minimum) to $68,469.15 (maximum). Hiring salary is commensurate with current employment, relevant education/training and work experience. Benefit options include life, disability, dental and health insurance; annual/sick leave; and Employees’ Retirement or Teachers Retirement.
