Welcome Back (virtually)
Dear AASD Families,
My name is Ben Smith and I am the Elementary Department Head at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. For those of you who are new to AASD, first and foremost, welcome! We are excited to have you as a part of our AASD community. For those returning families, we want to thank you for your commitment and patience during these unprecedented times. We are very fortunate to be given the opportunity to support and educate each of your amazing children.
The 2020-21 school year brings new challenges as well as exciting new opportunities. As you are all aware, AASD is having virtual learning for the 1st quarter of the school year. We have been preparing for this possibility all summer and the teachers, staff, and administration are well-equipped to successfully navigate your child’s virtual learning. We have many things to share with you and your child. Your child’s teacher should have reached out to introduce themselves and set up a live, one-on-one virtual meeting to discuss, among other things, a welcome letter, syllabus, and daily schedule. The first day of virtual school will be Monday, August 17th.
We are all very eager to get the 2020-21 school year underway. By working together as we embark on this unique journey, we will continue the growth and achievements of your child and will lead them to even greater heights.
I will be sending out elementary department emails to all families periodically throughout the year, so please be on the lookout for those emails!
More than ever, communication will be paramount in achieving the goals for your child. While your child’s teacher will be your main point of contact, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.
