AASD COVID-19 Reports
AASD is committed to keep families and staff informed, and AASD is providing information every school day about the number of positive cases, suspected cases, and close contacts reported by AASD. The report includes the number of new cases and the number of people not currently at AASD due to COVID-19. This does not include students who opted for distance/remote learning. In accordance with federal and state law, no information will be disclosed that would lead to the identification of any individuals represented in the numbers shown on the report. New reports will be posted weekly by the end of business day on Fridays.
The cases included in the report include both students and staff members.
When AASD has a confirmed case of COVID-19, AASD notifies the Department of Public Health (DPH) and works to identify “close contacts” as defined under DPH guidelines.
Positive Case- a person who receives a lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 test result, or a physician’s diagnosis of COVID-19
Suspected Case- a person who displays any of the common symptoms of COVID-19 but is waiting to be tested or to receive the results of a test already administered.
Common symptoms include:
- A fever of 100 degrees or higher
- Cough (not related to allergies or other chronic conditions)
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Chills
- Repeated shaking with chills
- Muscle pain (not related to other health conditions)
- Headache/body aches (not related to allergies or other chronic conditions)
- Sore throat (not related to allergies or other chronic conditions)
- Diarrhea
- Loss of taste or smell
Close Contact- a person who is not ill but who has been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case in a manner that could make the person susceptible to contracting the virus. Examples include a person who:
- Lives with someone who tested positive for COVID-19
- Was face-to-face with a positive case, while wearing or not wearing a mask/face covering, fewer than 6 feet apart for 15 minutes or longer
- Had direct contact with a positive case, such as sharing a drink
- Was exposed to the bodily fluids of a person with COVID-19 such as touching a facial tissue used by the positive case.
Return to School Guidelines:
According to DPH guidelines, any symptomatic students and staff who are confirmed cases of COVID-19 can return to school after:
- At least 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared and;
- A latest 24 hours have passed since last fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and;
- Symptoms (e.g., cough, shortness of breath) have improved.
Asymptomatic students and staff with confirmed COVID-19 can return to school after at least 10 days have passed since the positive test, and they remain asymptomatic.
Students and staff with confirmed close contact can return to school:
After 7 full days have passed since their most recent exposure if they fulfill all three of the following:
- Test for COVID-19 test no earlier than day 5 of quarantine period and;
- Receive a negative result and;
- Do not experience any COVID-19 symptoms during the quarantine period
They may return after 10 full days since their most recent exposure if they are not tested for COVID-19 and do not experience any COVID-19 symptoms during the quarantine period.
