American Sign Language Classes

    Cost:
    Community members: Non-refundable tuition of $80.00

    AASD, GSD and GA PINES families, FREE with a refundable deposit of $40.

    Childcare:
    Childcare is available if requested 3 days in advance. Cost is $5.00/child.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What level are these classes?
    We offer a basic level class and a second level class. Students will be together for the first day of class, then separated according to ability.  The class objective is to provide a working knowledge of American Sign Language and to offer an introduction to Deaf culture.

    Are classes only available on Saturday mornings at AASD?
    We would like to offer classes in satellite locations if there is enough interest. We welcome your input and suggestions. Please contact Patti Lombardi to discuss this further at plombardi@doe.k12.ga.us.

    Who is the instructor?
    Classes are taught by certified teachers of American Sign Language who are staff members at AASD.  

    How is the cost calculated?
    For families of students at AASD, GSD and GA PINES a $40.00 deposit is required to register. Children in the sibling classes can register for a $30 deposit. If at least 6 of the 8 class sessions are attended the deposit will be refunded in full. No partial refunds will be given.

    For all other community members the cost is $80.00 and is non-refundable. Although our first priority is teaching AASD students’ family members, additional spots are often available for members of the community on a first come, first serve basis.

    How does the child care work?
    Child care must be requested at least 3 days in advance. This means we must receive a call or email detailing how many children will be attending by the Wednesday before each Saturday class. The cost is $5.00 per child per session.

    How do I register?
    To register, fill out the registration form and return it to school with your child or via US Mail to Patti Lombardi, c/o AASD 890 North Indian Creek Dr. Clarkston GA 30021. Class capacity is limited. Classes are filled on a first come, first serve basis.

    How do I pay?
    Checks or cash accepted. Checks may be payable to AASD.
